Findings

Findings is the term used to describe all the bits and pieces you will need to complete your piece of jewellery, the most commonly used will probably be
earwires or earposts, jump rings, headpins or eyepins, chains, and clasps.

It is important to think of balance when planning your piece as the position of the finding will determine how it hangs or sits. For instance, to make an earring hang properly you need to take into account its weight and shape because if you place a post on the back of a heavy earstud it could well flop forward unless you fix the post at the top of the stud.

Findings made using silver or gold plated metals are not a good idea, the plating will wear off to reveal an often nasty nickel-heavy metal underneath, and after creating a beautiful piece of pure silver jewellery it would be a shame to spoil it with a cheap base metal finding.
